Saaturday morning when Markel came back from his walk, he had milkweed with a Monarch Caterpiller on it, so he got a jar and we started "raising" "Chrys". The next morning we discovered another smaller caterpiller at the bottom of the jar. We haven't named that one yet.
By Sunday afternoon at 4:00 "Chrys" had formed into the J mode.
Early afternoon today (Monday), he/she had formed a soft chrysalis before we discovered what was happening.
Soon this is what the jar looked like. Notice the small Caterpiller on the leaf at the bottom to the right.
The gold ring around the chrysalis is formed, and is ready for the feet to hang on to when the butterfly ecloses.

That process is very fascinating! Our Son-In-Law raises some milkweed in their garden and they have a number of them each summer. Our grandchildren throughly enjoy watching the process.

Michael became a chrysalis overnight - so I didn't get to see the process.
