Last week New Kid went from green chrysalis to eclosing. In the morning just before eclosing, she looked like this.
Right after eclosing, the wings were still a little wrinkled, but straightened out very nicely.
Rachel and Emma were here to help release New Kid ( a girl) in the bushes outside in front of the house.
Emma has had practice releasing butterflies, so she is now a pro at that.
It didn't take too long till she was off, and heading to warmer territory. New Kid was the last one of mine to go!!! That made three boys and two girls for this summer (with no fatalities).
