We were at Ruth's house yesterday for Sunday "dinner", and she showed us the wagon wheel on her front porch. In the hub of the wheel, a Jenny Wren had started to build a nest, but she thinks the poor mother bird has given up on proceeding with the nest building.
The mother Robin has, however done her best to protect her three eggs in the nest she has built right on top of the hub.
Here you can see the wheel with the Robin nest on top of the hub, and inside the hub is where the Jenny Wren started her nest. The birds "people friends" have covered the wheel with a wire mesh so the nests do not become disturbed. The robin nest is about as neat as I have ever seen a robin's nest to be.
